Woodfest Gorey 2016
The Woodfest on 2 July in Gorey was a festive end of the Gorey Chapter woodturning year. Nearly all lathes were moved to the large barn at the back of Robert's studio. There was even a separate demo room with comfortable seating were Graham Whitty and myself entertained the crowds.
In the main area Robert O'Connor, Seamus Cassidy and Pat O'Carroll did the woodturning demonstrations, others like Nickey Foley and Charlie Ryan filled the gaps. Mark Britchfield (14 years) did his first demo for an audience which was very brave! The level and variety of turning was at its usual high standard and fortunately many had come down to enjoy it all.
Pat did some amazing work on decorations and routing on a turned piece. The public could try out the pyrography with the set brought in by Paul Keogh. He showed all possibilities, it was great to give it a go in a well organised set-up surrounded by all the fine work of Paul himself.
Festool presented a large amounts of tools and demonstrated all the ins and outs of each tool over the day which opened up a whole new world of working with wood. The catering was in the capable hands of Mary O'Connor and her Dreamteam so there was a non-stop flow of coffee and tea.
At lunchtime the dark clouds had cleared away so we could sit outside to enjoy the tasteful BBQ with plenty of well prepared food to keep everybody happy. Graham's Dad played with his band which was a lovely background to all the chatting and munching.
The afternoon was filled with more turning, many thanks to the committee for organizing such a nice day. Thanks to Robert especially for using the lathes and equipment and all the demonstrators for coming down and sharing their expertise.
